The Atkins Diet

The Atkins diet is broad as it is a diet that can be followed once life has already been achieved weight loss. The main principle of Atkins is the restriction of carbohydrates (fruits, vegetables, dairy products) and sugars in our diet to increase consumption instead of protein and fat (meat, fish, shellfish, sausages and eggs).

The Atkins is divided into several phases.

  1. Induction. During the induction phase reduces carbohydrate intake to just a handful of salad or vegetables. The induction phase must be followed for a minimum of 2 weeks.
  2. Phase of progressive weight loss. During this phase it increases consumption of carbohydrates: admiete is a bit of cheese, a handful of nuts, a piece of fruit and a handful of vegetables or legumes. This phase lasts until the desired weight is reached.
  3. Pre-Maintenance. He turns to increase the amount of carbohydrates a day, so you can gain weight has been lost in the previous phase. The Pre-Maintenance should be continued until it can maintain the desired weight.

Disadvantages of the Atkins Diet

The Atkins restricts the intake of carbon hidaratos therefore not be considered a healthy and balanced diet. The Atkins diet contains very few nutrients, fiber and vitaminaslo which can cause health problems in the liver, kidney and constipation
